Place: Organic farm with plants and animals, especially chicken. Target group: kindergarten children Duration: 2 hours Number of participants: 15 pupils The welcome to the farm can be organized by explaining the farm cycle to the group by pictures. You can use this situation as an introduction to yourself and to the farm where you can explain children what plants are grown on the farm and what animals they can expect to see during the farm visit. Station 1: Animal feed storage The children can see, where the feed for the animals is stored . Here you can explain what kind of fodder is needed to feed the animals of your farm, and how it can be stored so that it is available all around the year. Station 2: Feeding the chicken (outside the hennhouse) Before the children start feeding the chicken, you should explain how to move and to behave between the animals so that neither the chicken nor the children get injured. Stop talking here and give the children the chance to have all their concentration for the interaction with the animals. The opportunity to make a real and lasting contribution to the future. Station 3: Hennhouse After feeding the chicken you can explain how the chicken hose on an organic farm is constructed, so that the henns can follow thier natural behaviour. Station 4: Collecting the eggs Explain to the children what happens if an egg falls down. Than you can start to collect the eggs with the group . If you are lucy you find some warm fresh layed eggs or a chicken that still sits in the nest and can be peted by the children. The opportunity to make a real and lasting contribution to the future. Station 5: Sorting the eggs Not all eggs have the same size. You can demonstrate this with an easy sorting machine. Station 6: Selling the eggs In the farm shop the group can try to find the eggs and can see how they are sold to customers. The opportunity to make a real and lasting contribution to the future. At this station the children can see and understand how plant production and animal keeping are connected. Station 8: Back in the kindergarten To have a feedback loop you can ask the children at the end of the farm visit if they can draw and send you a picture. So they can reflect in kindergarten their experiences. 6
