Choosing undeclared is a great choice! Take advantage of this first year to explore different subject areas or disciplines, to try something completely different from what you studied in high school and to be open-minded about all of your different options. 3 What is a Major? A Minor? Your major is the subject that you specialize in Approximately half of your courses will be in that discipline You can combine two majors (double major) A minor: a sub-specialization = Approximately four full-year courses over the BA Concentrations within the Major Other program options: co-op, international exchange, etc. B.A. General vs. B.A. Honours 3 years vs. 4 years In depth knowledge Research opportunities Allyson: questions for our poll: Why did you choose the BA Undeclared? 1) I didn’t know what I wanted to Major in; 2) I didn’t get into my first choice; 3) Other Do you already know what you might want to major in? yes / no How are you feeling about starting your first year? 9 Tips for Succeeding in First-Year
Read your course outline and read it often. Keep up with your readings. Learn how to manage your time. Go to class and be prepared. Learn to take good notes. Read the Academic Integrity Policy. Get to know at least one professor. Ask questions. Seek help if you need it. Review your audit at least once each term.
