Learning Gain: All learners will explore the contributions of Australia in World War II on and off the battlefield. Today we will: Discuss the reasons for Australian involvement in WW2 Examine the impact of the war on Australia’s economy. Explain how war changed the lives’ of women in Australia.

Australia’s Role Main Task Write down anything in GREEN. As part of the British Commonwealth, Australia declared war on Germany in 1939; the Royal Australian Air Force were among the first Australians to see action in WW2 Australia’s main role at the start of the war was to support the Allies in the air. They flew in operations over German and Italian cities; they sank enemy ships and submarines; shot down many enemy aircraft; and RAAF bombers dropped many tons of bombs. When the threat of Japanese attacks to Australia increased, Australia became more involved in the war. In 1942, Australia was attacked by sea and land. Japan attacked in Darwin as well as Sydney. Australian forces stopped Japan from invading, and handed the Japanese their first major on-land loss in battle.

Send one person from your table to a different group. (The new group should have studied the opposite information pack than you) 5. If you’ve moved tables, you’re an expert: share your information with your new group. Be sure to have your new table-mates share their information with you as well.
