Tissues
2
Tissues Cells are arranged in Tissues that provide specific functions for the body. Cells of different tissues are structured differently which leads to their differences in function.
3
The study of tissues is called histology
Arrangement of tissues embedded in or around nonliving material is called a matrix
4
Tissues of the human body include 4 major types.
1. Epithelial 2. Connective 3. Muscle 4. Nervous
5
Epithelial Tissue Covers and protects body surface Lines body cavities
Specializes in moving substances into and out of blood Forms many glands Many different forms of this type of tissue
9
Connective Tissue Specialized to support the body surface to connect and hold them together Transport substances through the body Protect it from foreign invaders Usually found spread apart from other connective tissues with non living matrix between
13
Muscle Tissue Produces movement
Muscle cells are specialized for contractility Produce movement by shortening of contractile units found in cytoplasm Have many nuclei 3 main types: Cardiac, smooth, skeletal
16
Nervous Tissue The most complex tissue in the body
Communication between various parts of body Coordination of body functions
20
Memorizing vs. Learning
