IIASA research supporting policy-makers in foreign / development / trade ministries, but also other ministries with an international dimension (e.g. climate) Cross-cutting projects, e.g. Arctic Futures, Eurasian Economic Integration Projects run within research programs, e.g. air pollution in South-East Asia Need to identify opportunities and overcome fragmentation

7 IIASA research supporting international policy efforts
IIASA supports a number of inter- national bodies and policies, e.g.: UN system (e.g. Paris agreement, SDGs) Continental bodies such as the European Commission (e.g. Knowledge Centre for Migration and Demography), ASEAN Others international bodies such as the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Arctic Council, etc. Need to enhance the visibility and the impact of this support

9 Why IIASA? IIASA was created by diplomats (“Stallgeruch”)
Based in Vienna, it engages with the diplomatic world on a daily basis Its mission is to tackle complex challenges no single country can solve It has authority due its scientific excellence and its membership (71% of the global economy and 63% of the global population) It is (perceived as) a neutral and independent honest broker
