1 World Food Cost and Refuting Thomas Malthus
ESTHER BOSERUP AND One week of food around the world.

2 Esther Boserup Esther Boserup (1910-’99) was a Danish economist who worked in India and other low-middle income countries. She shaped the theory that human growth actually leads to increased food, which refuted the ideas of a previous amateur economist known as Thomas Malthus, who suggested that human population is limited by the amount of food it can produce According to Boserup, the threat of starvation and challenge of feeding more mouths motivates people to improve farming methods and invent new technologies (known as “agricultural intensification”).
