Standard Approach Unless a written Non-Disclosure or Confidentiality Agreement is in effect, the following shall be deemed contributed to Internet2 Working Groups, Working Group Projects, and Internet2 Area Initiatives and Projects (with a license to use any and all intellectual property rights associated with that contribution): conversations, correspondence, and/or all documents, electronic or otherwise. In this regard, all contributions may be made freely available to the public. By virtue of the contribution, the contributor agrees that it will not pursue any action for infringement of intellectual property with respect to the contribution, or seek any payment or royalty of any kind, or transfer any intellectual property right with respect to that contribution to any third party. 11/15/2018

Standard Approach Identify who will be the “holder” of the intellectual property. Disclose any knowledge of an intellectual property claim (published, laid open, or otherwise) that may be infringed by the group's work. Identify whether or not participants hold any intellectual property rights that are likely to be used in the project; and the terms and conditions under which they will license any intellectual property. What Working Group Chairs Need to Know
Internet2 is implementing a straightforward approach for handling intellectual property based on the Standard Approach; goal is to make is as easy as possible for the Working Groups. Prudent management of the intellectual property aspects of a working group/ project helps assure that deliverables will be handled in a manner consistent with our principles. 11/15/2018

Information posted on web site Internet2’s Vice President for Operations has overall responsibility for the Intellectual Property Framework.. WG Chair Survival Guide updated Standard Approach in effect at Member Meeting Working Group Chair meeting Area Directors to send to working group participants post MM Current Working Group activities will be reviewed to determine if any action with respect to intellectual property is needed. 11/15/2018

What Working Group Chairs Need to Know: Ongoing
Intellectual property management requirements will be identified when a Working Group is established. Intellectual Property “Checklist” will be provided Internet2 is developing a clear process for contributions Support will be provided: The Area Director is the first line of support We expect improvements over time based on use of the Standard Approach. Your feedback will be important. 11/15/2018

What do the Working Group Chairs need to Do?
Collaborate with the Area Director to specify working group/ project intellectual property requirements. Make sure that participants are aware of the intellectual property requirements and work with them to address the ‘checklist’. Ask for help if you need it. 11/15/2018

What Working Group Chairs Need to Do
Frequently remind Working Group participants that the Standard Approach is in effect and that their continued participation implies consent. (during meetings, on the web-site, etc.) Conversations, documents, s, teleconference calls, etc. considered donated to the working group with license to use and to share Participants have ongoing requirement to disclose any intellectual property claim that may be infringed by the working group. Include standard disclaimer on deliverables. 11/15/2018

What Working Group Chairs Should Do
Pay special attention to software development projects. Determine who will ‘hold’ the intellectual property and make sure that all of the intellectual property rights are assigned to the holder. Employment contracts often specify intellectual property rights 11/15/2018

Summary Management of the intellectual property aspects of a working group/ project is important. Internet2 is implementing processes and support to facilitate this. We hope to continually improve our approach and support systems based on use. 11/15/2018
