Hydro plants harness water’s energy and use simple mechanisms to convert that energy into electricity.
Basic Components of a Hydro-Electric Dam:
Water intake
Turbine
Generator
Transformer
Power lines
Water outflow

5. How does hydro-electric power work?
Most hydro-electric plants rely on dams that hold water back
This creates a large reservoir (natural or artificial lake as a water supply)
The dam gates then open and gravity pulls the intake water through a pipeline to a turbine(s)

6. The turbines spin and so do a series of magnets inside generators producing an alternating current
The alternating current is transformed into higher voltage currents carried through power lines
The used water is carried through pipelines and re-enters the water source
