5 OPERATING PRINCIPLE OPASTOP Smoke Sensor Optic fibre The measuring panel emits a cone of light via fibre optic cable, into the area to be measured. The light reflected from the suspended particles is received by a second fibre optic and sent to the measuring panel. Optic fibre Duct Cone of light Perfored disc In order to be insensitive to outside lighting, the light emitted from the measuring panel chopped so as to produce a modulated signal at a frequency of 1000Hz. The measuring electronics only process light received at this frequency. Motor projector Measure Filter amplifier Cell of measure Fives Pillard

7 FITTING (Precautions for assembly)
OPASTOP "The sensor must be fitted at a measuring section which meets the conditions as defined in the Norm AFNOR NFX 44-052". Duct For ducts with a diameter less than 1m, it is imperative that the flange is fitted such that the large side of the sensor is parallel to the flue gas direction. The sensor holding flange must be welded directly to the duct such that the sensor is flush with the inside of the duct. So as avoid any disturbance, it is imperative that no element is closer than 1m from the sensor inside the duct. . Follow the bending radius of the fibre optics (10 cm mini) Do not exceed the maximum temperature of the fibre optics on the sensor (350°C with sweeping air as per recommendation). Move the measuring panel as far away from the stack as possible, being sure not to make the fibre optics too stretched. Sensor Gases circulation Sensor positioning Fives Pillard

10 PRODUCT MAINTENANCE Maintenance : Calibration :
OPASTOP Maintenance : OPASTOP GP2001H = very low maintenance. However, a periodic inspection will check : The general condition of the panel and the cleanliness of the electronics (de-dusting when de-energised). The cleanliness of the fibre optics, (cleaning with a dry rag without needing to shut the unit down) The condition of the seal on the panel door. Calibration : The opacimeter must be inspected at least once per year using the calibration device. Summary

11 REGULATORY ASPECT The OPASTOP GP2001H is :
In conformity with Norm AFNOR NF X Relating to the determination of dust concentration by opacimeter, for continuous measuring of flue gas opacity QAL1 as per norm EN14181 Aptitude of a measuring device for its function of measuring in a laboratory. (The accuracy of the unit and its repeatability of the measure have been verified by an approved laboratory) For info : QAL2 imposes on the client to qualify the unit at site during commissioning by an approved body (APAVE, Bureau Véritas,...) and to renew this inspection periodically. QAL3 imposes to the client to periodically verify the validity of the measure over time (by automatic self-checking by example)  An opacimeter with automatic monitoring is in the process of development for 2010 11

12 ADVANTAGES OF OPASTOP OPASTOP GP2001H = 30 years experience of Fives Pillard in dust monitoring. Only one principle of measure for diameters from 400mm to 7 meters Insensitive to outside lighting The fibre optics allow it to be protected from the heat and vibrations of the chimney Easy installation: only one hole, no alignment problem Very low maintenance. However, need a periodic inspection (cleaning fibres optic) Adaptable to special applications. High temperature, corrosive atmosphere, different length of optic fibre on demand Services for assistance with installation, commissioning assistance , annual maintenance contract, etc… Easy calibration thanks to its calibration device OPASTOP Fives Pillard
