What did he tell Nathaniel he had “found”? (to find after searching) (verse 45)
“Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote”
“Jesus of Nazareth, Son of Joseph”
How might he have come to this conclusion?

Nathaniel’s response:
“Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?”
Dangers of stereotyping with the gospel – either the one presenting or who we carry it to.
Phillip’s counter response: “Come and see” (John 1:39)
“The utterance of one who wishes that something should not be neglected by another” (Thayer)
Nathaniel did!

Jesus meets Nathaniel
“Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”
“Indeed” – truly, in reality. Not in name only.
“In whom there is not deceit” – refers to a bait or a snare. No disguises or tricks.
Nathaniel’s response to Jesus’ statement:
“How do You know me?” (Psalms 44:20-21; 139:1- 6; Luke 9:46-47; Matthew 9:4)

Jesus gives further evidence to Nathaniel:
I know exactly where you were when Philip called you even though I wasn’t there.
“I saw you” though not with His eyes. Jesus saw his heart.

Based on Jesus knowledge of him and where he had been, Nathaniel proclaims of Jesus:
Rabbi – Master, Teacher, Great One
The Son of God – the Messiah
The King of Israel
He understood the various roles the Messiah was to fulfill.
