Cells Review
2
Grudge Ball Rules Each group begins the game with 10 x’s
Each group will be asked a question If they get the answer correct that team gets to remove 2 x’s from another team. You can take them both from the same team or split them up. Before you take away x’s, you can increase the number by shooting the ball into the net. If you make the shot from the near line you can erase 4. From the far line, 5. You can NOT remove x’s from your own team. If your team is eliminated, you can win your way back by answering a question correctly AND shooting a basket.
3
Simple, unicellular, bacterial cells
Prokaryote
4
Organelle responsible for providing energy from food (glucose) to the cell
mitochondria
5
Complex cells that contain a nucleus and other organelles
eukaryotes
6
3 organelles that are found in plant cells, but not animals
Cell wall, chloroplast, large vacuole
7
Disease that uses Mosquitoes as a vector, affects red and liver cells
malaria
8
Organelle that packages and ships lipids and proteins out of the cell
Golgi body
9
Organelle that helps make and modify proteins; located near the nucleus, helps move things within the cell Endoplasmic reticulum
10
Primary job of the cell (plasma) membrane
Maintain homeostasis Control what enters and leaves the cell
11
Passive transport of large molecules through a channel protein
Facilitated diffusion
12
What type of solution is this cell in?
Isotonic solution
13
What type of solution is this cell in?
hypotonic
14
What type of solution is this cell in?
Hypertonic
15
Type of transport that requires energy
Active transport
16
Rigid structure surrounding a cell that is made of cellulose in plants
Cell wall
17
Passive transport moves molecules from an area of ______ concentration to _____ concentration
HIGH to LOW
18
Type of solution preferred by plants
Hypotonic
19
Hereditary disease that causes a decrease in sensitivity to insulin; requires injections to control blood sugar Diabetes (Type 1)
20
Group that comprises plant and animal cells
Eukaryotes
21
Organelle found in animal cells but not plant cells; helps to break down materials
lysosome
22
Organelle responsible for storing water, food, and waste in the cell
Vacuole
23
Substance that is “free-floating” in prokaryotes and in the nucleus of eukaryotes
DNA (Chromatin)
24
Type of solution where equilibrium occurs
isotonic
25
Type of cell that has ribosomes, cytoplasm, and a cell theory
All cells
26
List two of the three parts of the cell theory
All cells come from other cells All living things are made of cells Cells are the basic unit of life
27
Organelle responsible for taking energy from the sun and turning it into usable energy
chloroplast
28
Organelle found in all cells that provides cushioning, support, and performs some chemical reactions
cytoplasm
29
Organelle found in all cells that makes proteins
ribosomes
