Objective Students will use correct spelling of the homophones there, their, and they’re.

There Refers to a place. Hint: Remember the rhyme—
“There tells where.” Hint: Remove the t, and you spell here. If you can replace there with here, use there. Where is my dog?

Their Is a possessive pronoun indicating that the noun belongs to someone. Hint: Note the other pronouns you can find spelled in this word: He, I. This should remind you that their is also a pronoun. Hint: If you can replace it with another possessive pronoun, such as our or my, use their. Puppies often bark at their reflections.

They’re Is a contraction for they and are.
You cannot use it to describe something. Instead, it is a subject (they) and verb (are). Hint: Spell out the contraction. If you can replace it with they are, use they’re. Look at the cats. They’re playing!
