3. Question: What will happen if we place the gobstoppers in the water?

4. Hypothesis: If we place the gobstoppers in the water, then…….

5. Materials: 4 different colored gobstoppers Large petri dish
Cup of water
Graduated cylinder or pipette
Colored pencils

6. Procedures:
Place the gobstoppers at the 12, 3, 6, & 9 o’clock position in the bowl.
Slowly fill your dish with water just above the candy.

8. Conclusion:
As the candies dissolve, the concentric layers of color disperse into the surrounding water, but adjoining colors do not readily mix to form new colors. This is because a thin layer of wax surrounds each layer, inhibiting the spread of colors. Further, the colored water forms clearly defined, wedge-shaped areas in the dish and changes color over time.)
