Common Challenges to Adopting RRI Practices
Importance “RRI is not relevant for us. I know no other leader in my field who’s done this.” “No way, this is in conflict with our goals.” Strategy “That’s a change of strategy. It’s not in my goals. My manager must approve first.” “I am not paid to do this.” Urgency “I understand it is important, but we first must solve this much bigger acute problem.” Ability/Resources “I’d love to help, but we don’t have the skills, headcount, or budget.”

Insights from Pilots RRI concept is too abstract for industry, specific examples required – RRI should be integrated into CSR for industry Responsibility is not part of project approval, but long-term financial benefits Either you are keen on RRI or not: black/white The companies are not only doing R&D, but are also producing, delivering What would be irresponsible behavior? Open access is the wrong term, open innovation may be better Equality and diversity should cover through engagement Different between SME and Large companies Existing process Different levels of resources Importance of who you talk to: It may be more about personality rather than their role in the organization
