DO NOW: Take out your packet What are some things that you notice? What are some things that you wonder? Carli has some apps on her phone. Braylen has half the amount of apps as Theiss. Carli has three times the amount of apps as Theiss.

Please get a Common Assessment #7 to complete
You will have 15 minutes to work on it (please make sure your name is on it before you hand it in) Check it over and make sure you answered everything before turning it in.
4
Try this… create an expression for: Ian scored 4 fewer goals than Julia. Use j to represent Julia’s number of goals.

I will be able to analyze information from a story problem.
Objective I will be able to analyze information from a story problem. So that I can accurately describe variables and create an expression to determine an unknown value. I will know I got it when I can successfully write and evaluate at least 4 out of 5 expressions with my partners. 6.EE.A.2 6.EE.B.6

Language Objective By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the four language domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will read the real-world problem, verbally communicate with their partners and write and evaluate algebraic expressions using the value of the variables. They will know they got it when they can communicate the key vocabulary effectively with their partners with at least 80% accuracy. Academic Math Language Vocabulary: variable, evaluate, unit, unit of measure, value
7
FYI… When naming variables in expressions, it is important to be very clear about what they represent. The units of measure must be included if something is measured. (Highlight on pg. 79 ex. 1)

Why is it important to describe the variable in an expression?
The biggest reason to define the variable is to know what the expression represents. If something is measured, include units. If something is counted, include that it is a number of items.

Now you do… Speed dating style
Complete exercise 1 on page 79 (do 1 per partner) DO NOT GO AHEAD Complete page 81 (Description with units with 1 partner, and then the next partner you write the expression and evaluate). People sitting on the outside seats, you will remain in your seat. People sitting on the inside seats, you will rotate clockwise
