Managing feelings and behaviour
Enable your child to experience different settings with different behavioural expectations e.g. libraries, parks, museums, shops etc. Set clear home boundaries and rules. Allow you and your child to work together to think of suitable rules you both agree on. Give them some ownership and decided on suitable rewards and sanctions needed I the home environment. Be honest with your child and talk about your own feelings and why e.g. I am feeling tired today because I did not get enough sleep. This will expose your child to be able to think of resolutions and be aware of other feelings people may have. Managing feelings and behaviour Children talk about how they and others show feelings, talk about their own and others’ behaviour, and its consequences, and know that some behaviour is unacceptable. They work as part of a group or class, and understand and follow rules. They adjust their behaviour to different situations, and take changes of routine in their stride. Make behaviour systems at home very clear and visual e.g. marbles in a jar, stickers on a char. Be sure to reward your child for right choices e.g. a special outing, play time, activity or game. If a wrong choice has been made be sure to talk t through with your child so that they understand why a reward was not given.
