1 Recognizing Equilibrium
Chapter 13

2 Dynamic Equilibrium When the rate of the forward reaction becomes equal to the rate of the reverse reaction, DYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM is reached. Read the examples of page 489 and answer the question in Figure 13.1 Review solution equilibrium and describe the situation when dynamic equilibrium occurs in a solution.

3 Conditions That Apply to All Equilibrium Systems
Identify three physical processes that reach equilibrium. (page 492) The reaction of nitrogen with hydrogen to produce ammonia is called homogeneous equilibrium. N2(g) + 3H2(g) <---> 2NH3(g) Why do you think this is so?

4 Conditions Continued AgNO3(aq) + NaCl (aq) <-----> AgCl(s) +NaNO3(aq) Why do you think this reaction reaches a heterogeneous equilibrium? Can you name three chemical reactions that CANNOT reach an equilibrium? Explain why equilibrium does not mean equal.

5 Four Conditions That Apply to All Equilibrium Systems
The conditions are described on page 492, know them! Do questions 1-6 on page 493. Electronic Learning Partner; Equilibrium
