2. ΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΟ ΑΠΟΛΥΤΗΡΙΟ – EUROPEAN BACCALAUREATE
It is the final title awarded by the European Schools at the end of the Secondary Circle
For the final mark all the marks given in the 7th course, as well as the BAC written and oral exams are taken into consideration. There are universities interested in the marks from the year 5th and especially from the year 6th and up but these marks are not registered in the final title.
Regular and consecutive attendance at least in the year 6 and 7 classes of the secondary section is needed in order to participate in the final exams and to be awarded the Baccalaureate.

3. ΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΟ ΑΠΟΛΥΤΗΡΙΟ – EUROPEAN BACCALAUREATE
The students “make” their own Baccalaureate in the beginning of the 6th year, they therefore choose the subjects, which they will attend the next two years.
These choices are related to the choices in the 3rd but mainly in the 4th year. Many subjects can’t be chosen if the students haven’t attended them in the 4th and 5th year. Still there is the chance of having an attainment test at the end of the 5th year.
In some of these subjects the students will have a simultaneous harmonized written (5) and oral (3) exam, at the end of the 7th year (BAC EXAMS).
The examinations will normally cover the year 7 syllabus, but will also test knowledge gained in previous years, especially year 6.

4. ΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΟ ΑΠΟΛΥΤΗΡΙΟ – EUROPEAN BACCALAUREATE
The European Baccalaureate can have a science, humanities, artistic or mixed orientation.
The subjects are:

From the 6th to the 7th year, few changes are permitted:

4-period option ---> Compulsory 2-period course (same subject)
A change the other way around is conditional upon the passing of an attainment test demonstrating the student’s ability to keep up successfully with the course requested.
The substitution of one option for another is not permitted.
An option subject can be dropped if the total number of periods is the required.
SEPTEMBER 7th:
choice form for the written (5) and the oral (3) completed
(no change permitted afterwards)
register in an additional option subject, whether or not they have attended a course in the subject in question in the school.
-admittance to this additional Baccalaureate examination may be authorised only if: documentation is provided to show that an examination in the subject is part of the conditions for admission to the higher education course on which the student wishes to embark-

PRELIMINARY MARK)

15. PREBAC EXAMS: B EXAMS: ΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΟ ΑΠΟΛΥΤΗΡΙΟ – EUROPEAN BACCALAUREATE
They begin two weeks after Christmas holidays
They last 10 days and the maximum period of exams per day is 6 hours with a minimum 1-hour interval
They have to be harmonized within the school
B EXAMS:
They take place in December and in early May
The number and the length vary according to the course
In the reports of November and April (mid-terms) only comments are entered
In the middle of May the PRELIMINARY MARK is sent to Brussels and we enter it into the calculation system

HARMONIZATION OF THE WRITTEN EXAMS
All written examinations will be the same for all candidates, irrespective of the language section to which they belong, with the exception of the examinations in Languages 1, 2, 3 and 4.
In Language 1, basic course, a uniform examination will be taken by all the students in the same language section. The same applies to Language 1, advanced course.
In foreign languages, a uniform examination will be taken in each language and at each level by candidates from all language sections.

17. WRITTEN EXAMS ΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΟ ΑΠΟΛΥΤΗΡΙΟ – EUROPEAN BACCALAUREATE
Geaded by two markers :
From the subject teacher in the school
From another external marker in the Brussels’ correction center
-in case of 2 marks’ difference a third marker in Brussels gives the final mark-
there are clear instructions for the form of the exam and the marking as well as past papers
marks 0-10, accurate to one decimal place
the proposed questions are made up only by the Type I schools and are sent to Brussels in November

ORAL EXAMS
Time of preparation: 20 minutes.
Length of the examination: 20 minutes.
Examined and marked by two examiners:
from the subject teacher
from an external examiner, sent by Brussels
Marks 0-10, half marks allowed, marking after discussion
All the teachers who teach a subject send their proposed questions and details in February.
The students draw an envelope with a number which corresponds to a subject (number of students +5).
in case they want to choose another they lose 20% of the mark
There are clear instructions for the marking
