Harbor Write the definition on your paper. A body of water where ships, boats, and barges can seek shelter from stormy weather.

The shirt has been imported from Viet Nam and sold in the U.S.
Imports Goods or services sold within a country that is produced in a different country. Example: You buy a shirt from a local store in Smyrna. On the tag it says “made in Viet Nam.” The shirt has been imported from Viet Nam and sold in the U.S.

Exports In Latin, the prefix “Ex” means to exit. Good or services made within a country and sold outside the country. Example: A camera is made in China but exports it to the U.S. where we buy it. The camera has been EXPORTED from China.

Population Distribution People are spread out over an area of land.
Example: You have aunts, uncles, and cousins that live in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida. You can say that your relatives are distributed throughout several southern states.

A government policy that limits international trade.
Trade Barriers A government policy that limits international trade. Example: 3M is a large company that manufactures large bolts for the Navy. The Navy decides to buy the bolts from China instead (it’s cheaper). 3M has to close several of their plants because they can’t sell their bolts and thousands of American people lose their jobs The U.S. government steps in and tells the Navy they cannot buy the bolts from China. The U.S. Government has made a TRADE BARRIER against buying bolts from China.

Arable Fertile Soil (Full of nutrients, lots of minerals in the soil).
Example: The Northern part of Italy has very fertile soil so 1/3 of the Italian population live in the North. Many of the people there are farmers.

Permafrost Permanently frozen soil. Located in the Tundra (extremely cold climates). Example: The upper part of Russia is a tundra. In the summer only 2-3 inches thaw out.

Urban Located in the cities Example: Atlanta, Rome, Berlin

Rural Located in the country Example : Farmland, pastures
