Verse 1: (Innkeeper and Wife) It was Christmas Eve, Dear, Though we didn’t know it yet, And that’s ’cause Christmas Hadn’t been invented yet! So many travellers Looking for a place to stay, Our little inn was full – We had to turn them all away!

Verse 2: (Wife) Turn them all away! Turn them all away! I just can’t cope with more people today! Get up and listen, now do as I say, Make yourself useful and turn them away! (Innkeeper) Give it a rest! I’m doing my best! Stop with your nagging, it’s making me stressed! It’s not my fault, how could I have guessed All of these strangers would find our address?

Verse 3: (Innkeeper) When will the knocking cease? I need a little peace, Half an hour’s sleep at the very least! (Wife) What right have you to moan? I’ve done this on my own! That’s it, I’ve had enough! I’ve worked my fingers to the bone!
