When you have data on a worksheet that runs longer than your screen, you may find yourself wasting a lot of time scrolling back to the top to see which column is which.

You can save time by freezing the row of column headings at the top of your screen...

when you scroll down, the row at the top will always show the names of each column.

To unfreeze the headings, click on the “View” tab, select “Freeze Panes” …

If you want to freeze two of your columns and keep the row headers, start by selecting a cell to the right of the column you want to freeze and below the row header you want to freeze.

And Excel sets off the first two frozen columns and the header rows with solid, dark lines.

Step-by-Step:
To freeze the top row:
- Select the “View” tab.
- Click “Freeze Panes”
- Click “Freeze Top Row”
To freeze the first column:
- Click “Freeze First Column”
To freeze a number of rows or columns:
- Select a cell to the right of the column you want frozen and below the row you want frozen.
To unfreeze:
- Select the “View” tab
- Click “Unfreeze Panes”
To see headings on all printed pages:
- Select the cells you want on
every page.
- Click “Page Layout”
- Click “Print Titles”
- Your range will appear in the “Page Setup”
- Click “OK”
