Where Am I in the Test Site Training Modules?
This module will cover the test tools and supports in detail by explaining how to: Use the Global Menu and Context Menus Use Zoom Pause a test Expand a passage Use the Tutorial tool Use the Highlight Selection tool Mark a question for review Review questions Submit a test and log out of the student site Test Administration Site (used by Teachers) How to Create and Start a Test Session How to Manage a Test Session Test Administration Site (used by Students) How Students Log in and Start a Test How Students Navigate a Test and Use Test Tools There are a total of four modules on the Test Administration sites used for teachers and students. This is the final training module for the Test Administration site. In this module you will learn how students navigate and use tools on the student test administration site during the test. Please note that not all testing tools and supports will be covered in this training module. For a more detailed list of tools and supports, please see the Student and User Management Guide on the AIRWays portal. This module covers the following tasks: How to use the global menu and context menus How to use Zoom How to pause a test How to expand a passage How to use the Tutorial tool How to use the Highlighter How to mark a question for review How to review questions How to submit a test and log out of the student site First, we will explain how to use the global menu and context menu.

How to Use the Global and Context Menus
Global Menu Located above each question Used to navigate through the test The test has tools and supports that help students complete the test. The global menu is located above each question and contains the navigation tools and test settings buttons for the entire test. The global menu facilitates navigation through a test and allows students to access their tools conveniently. The context menu appear as three grey horizontal lines located in line with each question on the test. The context menu provides access to tools specific to the test questions, not the test in its entirety like the global menu. Students can also right-click anywhere in the test question to access the context menu. First, we will focus on the global menu. How to Use the Global Menu
Navigation Buttons Test Tools Once students begin a test, they will see the test has a global menu at the top of the page. The global menu has a series of navigation buttons and test tools used to help students during testing. The global menu does not change and is present for all questions. The buttons on the left side are the navigation buttons. The navigation buttons are used to move from question to question, save a test, or pause a test. The buttons on the right side are test tools. The test tools are used to help students interact with the content and answer options on the test. Tools may vary depending on the content. For example, some math tests may have a calculator while others do not. Students can navigate through the test questions by using the Back and Next buttons. If a students wants to revisit an item that is not immediately before or after the question they are on, they can use the Questions drop-down menu circled here to select the question they want to go to. If for any reason a student needs to take a brief break from their test, they can save their work and pause a test using the Pause button. Students will have to log back in to continue testing if their test is paused. When a student moves to the next question, their response is automatically saved in the Test Administration site. Clicking the save button is not required for student responses to be saved. Navigation buttons are used to move from question to question, save a test, or pause a test. Test Tools are used to help students interact with the content and answer options on the test.

How to Use the Global Menu Tools: Zoom
Zoom In makes graphics or text appear larger on the screen Zoom Out makes images or text appear smaller on the screen The Zoom tool, located in the global menu, gives all students the option to enlarge the appearance of text and graphics on the test screen. This may be useful to students who need to increase a graphic’s size for comprehension but do not have any visual accommodations for testing. The initial text and graphic size and the degree to which a student can enlarge the screen depends on their settings uploaded into the Student and User Management System. Students can manipulate the size of a question’s texts and graphics by selecting Zoom In or Zoom Out. Zoom In will create a larger text or graphic, Zoom Out will make the text or graphic become smaller, down to the standard size on the test. For larger zoom levels, accommodations will need to be set in the Student and User Management System. Now we will discuss how to pause a test.
6
How to Use the Global Menu Tools: Pause
Pause will pause the test, saving all responses entered so far, and log the student out of the Student Testing Site. The student must repeat the sign-in and approval process to resume a paused test. No data is lost by pausing the test. If a test is paused in excess of its pause time limit, when resumed, students cannot change or review their answers to previous items. If a test is briefly paused within the pause time limit, when resumed the student will be able to change and review previous answers Pause will pause the test, saving all responses so far, and log the student out of the Student Testing Site: The student must repeat the sign-in and approval process to resume a paused test No data is lost by pausing the test If a test is paused in excess of its pause limit, students cannot change or review their answers to previous items when they resume the test If a test is briefly paused and within the pause limit, the student will be able to change and review previous answers when they resume the test Now we will discuss how to expand a passage.
7
How to Expand a Passage Notice how the screen shows the passage next to the question To have the passage appear wider and fill the width of the screen, click the Expand Passage Icon. The Expand Passage tool is used to make passages appear wider on the testing screen. Notice how the page shows the passage next to the question. To make the passage appear wider on the screen, click the Expand Passage tool located next to the context menu icon. It appears as double diagonal arrows. When a student selects the Expand Passage icon, the passage shifts from the more narrow view to a wider view that covers a larger part of their screen. The text itself will not enlarge when the passage expands, but this will reduce the scrolling needed to view a full passage. To make the text larger, students should use the Zoom tool previously discussed in this training. If the Expand Passage icon appears with blue arrows, that means the passage is expanded. To have the passage return to standard size, click the icon again. When it turns grey, it is inactive and the text will appear as standard.
8
How to Expand an Item Notice how the screen shows the passage next to the item. To have the item appear wider and fill the width of the screen, click the Expand Item Icon. The Expand Item tool is used to make an item appear wider on the testing screen.

How to Use the Context Menu Tools: Tutorial
Tutorials are available for each question type to show the student how to answer that specific type of question. Click the context menu next to the question number. Select Tutorial. Watch the short video showing how to respond to a particular question. Sometimes there may be a question type that a student needs support in understanding how to answer. The Tutorial tool is a short video demonstrating how to respond to a particular question type. Tutorial is located in the question’s context menu. If a student clicks Tutorial, a pop-up message will appear with a video that shows the student how that type of question should be answered. For example, the tutorial will take the student through the steps of answering a question that requires a drag and drop response instead of a single selected answer or a typed response. This may be helpful to ensure students are answering all parts of the question correctly. A complete set of tutorials are available on the AIRWays portal at Next we will discuss how to use the Highlighter tool. 9
10
How to Use the Context Menu Tools: Highlight Selection
Select the text first, then click Highlight Selection in the Context Menu. Highlighters can be used if a student wants to emphasize a particular part of a question or passage while answering the question. The Highlighter tool can be used if a student wants to emphasize a particular part of a question or passage while answering a question. First, the student should select the text they wish to highlight by clicking and dragging their cursor over the text. Then, once the text is selected, they should go to the Context Menu and click Highlight Selection. The text will appear highlighted with a yellow background. Another way to highlight text is to right click on the selected text and then select Highlight Selection. If they no longer want that text highlighted, they should select Reset Highlighting from the context menu or right click the highlighted text and select Reset Highlighting. The highlight will be removed. Please note that images cannot be highlighted.
11
How to Use the Context Menu Tools: Mark for Review
Click the Context Menu and select the Mark for Review option. This flags the question to help students keep track of questions they want to revisit. The question will appear marked on the questions review page at the end of the test as well as in the question’s drop-down menu. When taking a test, students may come across a question they may want to return to at the end of the test. The Mark for Review tool allows students to flag questions they want to review at a later time during the test session. From the context menu located in line with each question number, click Mark for Review. The question icon will appear ‘dog-eared’ and have the top right corner folded down like a page in a book. Once a question is marked for review, the question drop-down menu above the navigation buttons will show the question as “marked.” Questions marked for review will also be flagged on the test review page at the end of the student’s test. Next, we will further discuss how a student can review questions.
12
How to Review Questions
Click the Questions drop- down menu to go back to questions. Once all questions are answered, the End Test button will appear on the global menu. Click End Test to open a review page for all questions. Students have the opportunity to review all of their answers before submitting their test. To review questions and answers, student can use the Questions drop-down menu to select which question they want to return to. After all available questions are answered, a red End Test button will appear on the global menu next to the pause button. Clicking End Test will not automatically submit the answers or log the student out of the Student Test site. The End Test button will take students to a page where they may review all of their answers first.
13
How to Review Questions (cont.)
Click a question to go back to that question for review. A blue flag icon will appear next to any flagged questions. The is no limit on the number of times a student can review a question before submitting their test. When the review is complete, click “Submit Test” On the review questions page, students can go back to review questions on the test by clicking that question number. If any question was marked for review, a blue flag icon will appear next to the question number. The is no limit on the number of times a student can review a question before submitting their test. When students are finished reviewing the questions and are finished testing, click Submit Test. A pop-up message will appear asking students to confirm that they want to submit the test. Clicking Yes will complete the test. Clicking No will keep students at the review page. Now we will discuss how students review the details of the submitted test and log out of the student test administration site.
14
How to Log Out of the Student Site
The Your Results page appears after a test is submitted. Answers can no longer be modified. The student should click “Log Out” to log out of the student testing site. After the test is submitted, a Your Results window will show details of the student’s test submission. Students are no longer able to modify any answers.
