The typical process to working with a material is as follows. This applies to ALL materials. Separating Assembling Forming Finishing

3 Any process that removes material is a separating process.

4 Any process that binds two materials together.
Assembling Any process that binds two materials together.

5 Separating/Assembling Game

6 Jigs and Fixtures Jigs and fixtures speed production, increase accuracy and make interchangeable parts possible

7 Forming Stamping: To give shape or structure to an object by pressing (or stamping) it into a form called a die.

8 Forming Casting: Consists of pouring or injecting molten material into a mold containing a cavity with the desired shape of the casting.

9 Forming Forging: Is a manufacturing process involving the shaping of metal using localized compressive forces.

10 Forming Extrusion: Process of shaping a material into a specific cross sectional shape.

11 Finishing Finishing: Process to protect and beautify the final product. Important!!! Not all finishes are appropriate for all materials. Some finishes may damage the material, or just won’t stick to the material.
