1. Preparing Images with Photoshop

2. Course Aim
Discover how Photoshop can be used to prepare images to make them more suitable for their eventual purpose.

3. Objectives By the end of this session you should be able to:
Organise, group and align layers neatly.
Use Layer Styles to change how parts of an image interact with each other, to, for example, add effects such as shadows or gradients.
Use Masks to adjust the transparency of parts of a layer, thus allowing images to be blended together.
Save and edit selections using Masks.
Make accurate selections with the Refine Edge tool.
Make advanced and non-destructive image adjustments by utilising adjustment layers such as Photo Filter and Hue/Saturation.

4. Previously, in Level 1…
By the end of this session you should be able to:
Use appropriate tools to manipulate the size and quality of an image, to suit its purpose.
Retouch an image to remove flaws, blemishes or unwanted objects.
Adjust settings, such as contrast and brightness to improve the appearance of an image.
Export and print images from Photoshop.
Use layers to alter images in a range of ways, for example to combine images together or add text.
Utilise selection tools to highlight, and use, specific areas of an image.

8. Photoshop Masks Purpose of masks
Masks allow you to control the transparency of parts of a layer (as opposed to the Opacity setting that controls the entire layer). Allows for blending of images together.
Save and refine selections.
