Confirmands get two chances to successfully recite their memory work.
Students should define the Lesson 2 Key Words when Memory Work is completed.

5. Key Words COMMANDMENTS:
things we must do because of the wisdom and love that’s behind them. (these aren’t merely suggestions!)
SIN:
anything that is against God; disobeying; “missing the mark.”
LAW:
rules to live by. There are 3 kinds of laws in the Old Testament:
1. moral – our duty toward God and others
2. ceremonial – religious rules
3. political – state rules for the Israelites.
*Only the moral law was written on our hearts.

9. 1. You shall have no other gods before me.
-false gods are real and alive today.

10. 2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
-How is this commandment violated?
Count how many times you hear
God’s name used in vain this week in school, with your friends, on TV, etc…

11. 3. Honor the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.
-What does this mean?

12. 4. Honor your Father and Mother so that you may live long on the earth.
-The only commandment
with a promise attached.

5. You shall not kill.

-You can kill a person’s reputation, honor, and spirit.

14. 6. You shall not commit adultery.
-What is “adultery?”

15. 7. You shall not steal.
-Ownership – all things belong to God.

16. 8. You shall not bear false witness.

17. 9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
-Where were God’s people living when they received the Commandments? -Did they own a house?

18. 10. You shall not covet anything else that is your neighbors…
