3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Remember to inspect your PPE before each use.
CSA Approved Steel Toed Boots
Coveralls (Preferred with Hi-Viz Reflectors)
Safety Glasses (Preferred Seismic Glasses)
Leather Palmed Work Gloves

4. Transportation Requirements (TDG)
Class 4.1 Flammable Solid
Follow TDG Regulatory Requirements
SDS (Safety Data Sheet)

5. Dumping Guidelines Be Aware of the Surroundings
Do Not Dump Product On a Rocky Landscape
Do Not Dump Product On or Near Flammable and/or Oxidizing Chemicals/Product
Initiate a 30 Minute Fire Watch
Walk Around Surrounding Area
Inspect for Flame and/or smoldering

6. Equipment Maintenance
Before any Maintenance on Equipment it must be thoroughly washed
Clean equipment prior to any change in product to avoid cross contamination
Weld in well ventilated area
Have Pump up Hand Held Water Sprayer available when welding
Wear proper PPE during maintenance

7. Emergency Preparedness – Fires
Spreaders Should be Equipped with a 20 lb Water Bottle With Spray Wand and Nozzle/20 lb ABC Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher
Small/Medium Fires
Easily Extinguished by Smothering the Flame With Additional Product.
Use Light Water Fog = 20 lb Water Bottle With Spray Wand and Nozzle
Larger Fires
Or Use ABC Dry Chemical to Extinguish

8. REMEMBER… Remain Upwind at All Times!
Because Sulphur is Slllooowww Burning…the Fire is Not the Concern…
The Concern is the SO2 That Is Released When There is a Fire.
Keep Unauthorized Persons Away
Gently Mist The Fire With Water
Fire is Extremely Rare as the Compost Moistens the Product

9. First Aid – Eyes
Irritation Can Result From Fine Particulate Contact With The Eye.
Rubbing the Eye Makes the Situation Worse by Forcing More Particulate Into the Eye Socket.
Particulates May Undergo Slow Chemical Reaction With the Eye Fluids to Produce Acidic Conditions Which Can Lead to Profuse Tear Formation - Natural Defense Mechanism.
Wash Eye(s) Out With an Eye Wash Kit and Repeat as Often as Needed.
Avoid Rubbing the Eye(s) and Keep Hands Clean.
If Conditions Worsen, Medical Attention is Required.

10. First Aid – Inhalation
If Handling Product During Windy Conditions it is Recommended to Wear an Appropriate Dust Mask

11. First Aid - Ingestion
Solid Sulphur ingested in small doses is not toxic (traditional “Sulphur and Molasses”).
More massive doses may require first aid followed by medical attention.
Wash hands after use and before eating, drinking and/or smoking.

12. First Aid – Skin (Rashes)
Extensive skin exposure to Sulphur particulate may require thorough washing of the skin with mild soap and water.
In the event of irritation or if rashes develop, professional medical attention should be sought.
Dust laden clothing should be thoroughly cleaned before being worn again.
