CAVE ART
2
Ancient Cave Drawings In prehistoric art, the term "cave painting" encompasses art involving the application of colour pigments on the walls, floors or ceilings of ancient rock shelters. They are a variety of figurative and abstract images, mostly depicting hunting scenes, or arrangements of animals - usually bison, horses, reindeer, cattle, aurochs, and mammoths, although a wide variety of other creatures were depicted, such as: lions, musk ox, wolf, fox, rabbits otters, seals, fish, reptiles, birds and other creatures also appear. There is no landscape painting in prehistoric art, or even any elements of landscape, like mountains or rivers. Images of humans appear only very rarely: even then, they are human- like, rather than realistically human.
