HIV in Ireland, 2017 Provisional data
These slides present provisional data on cases of HIV notified to HPSC during 2017 via CIDR. Data will change as further data are received from clinicians (64% of forms received up to 24th April 2018). Notifications of HIV in Ireland include people who were previously diagnosed HIV positive in another country. Following validation of data, more detailed reports on the epidemiology of HIV for 2017 will be produced. You can stay up-to-date with current HIV and STI data with the weekly HIV & STI report.

Route of transmission Notifications of HIV in 2017 highest in MSM, follows by heterosexuals, and PWID. Transmission route at this stage unknown for 31% of cases. MSM: men who have sex with men; PWID: People who inject drugs; Unknown category includes other 2017 Provisional Data

HIV Prevention and Treatment
Get tested for HIV regularly Further information on sexual health services and HIV testing is available at (HSE Sexual Health Services) (HIV Ireland testing locator) (Resource for gay and bisexual men) HIV treatment The HSE recommends that all HIV infected individuals attending HIV services in Ireland are offered antiretroviral therapy as soon as possible and informed of the benefits of antiretroviral therapy in reducing HIV infectiousness and improving their personal health.
