1
Tissues, Organs, and Systems of Living Things
Talk about the progression from cells to tissue to organs to organ systems to organisms

Pg 23
9
Cell Theory All living things are made up of one or more cells and their products. The cell is the simplest unit that can carry out all life processes. All cells come from other cells; they do not come from non-living matter.
11
prokaryote A cell that does not contain a nucleus or other membrane-bound organelles Examples of prokaryotes (bacteria): E. coli, Streptococcus, Lactobacillus, Salmonella DNA not enclosed in a membrane!
12
Eukaryote A cell that contains a nucleus and other organelles, each surrounded by a thin membrane DNA enclosed in a membrane!
13
Organelle A cell structure that performs a specific function for the cell ONLY contained in EUKARYOTIC cells
14
What now? Break off into groups of 2-3 people
Choose an organelle (pg. 30, 31, 32) Become an expert in min Present your findings to class Assign groups to different organelles is they can’t decide on their own
15
Organelles to choose from
Cytoplasm Cell membrane Nucleus Mitochondria Endoplasmic reticulum Golgi bodies Vacuoles Only in plants: Cell wall Vacuoles Chloroplasts
