GA Fine Arts Diploma Seal
What You Need To Do

Who Is Eligible Seniors who have a 3.0 GPA or above in their fine arts courses AND a GPA of 2.8 or above on their first semester of senior year transcripts. Seniors who have successfully (B or above)completed at least three fine arts courses. Seniors who have presented/performed in at least 2 district wide arts events. Seniors who have completed at least 20 hours of arts related community service. Participating in district wide arts events coutns towards this. Seniors who have completed a capstone project.

Senior Capstone (Visual Arts)
Portfolio presented by the student consisting of 10 pieces of any medium based on the study, theory, and practice of any artist/movement in connection to a 21st century issue. The portfolio will be reviewed, scored, and assessed by the teacher of record or chosen panel. The Senior Capstone Visual Arts Exhibition Rubric will be used to score. Must include a written artist’s statement.

Senior Capstone (Music)
The performing arts capstone will be a final piece/performance of any genre or medium presented by the student. Can be solo or group performance. Final piece must be based on studied theory and practice of any artist/movement in connection to a 21st century issue. The portfolio will be reviewed, scored, and assessed by the teacher of record or a chosen panel. The Senior Capstone Performing Arts Exhibition Rubric will be used to score. Must include a written artist’s statement.

The Artist’s Statement
Each candidate must submit with their final portfolio/performance a written artist’s statement about their body of work. The statement must address the following three areas: Art history or artist influence on your own artistic approach/process A real life, real world application/influence to your body of work or performance A connection to a 21st century issue or problem The written artist’s statement must be 2-5 pages, double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point font.

The Artist Statement (cont’d…)
Each statement must be scored by the teacher of record or an evaluation panel before submitting to the district. Qualifying candidates must have a score of 8 or above on a 10 point scale to qualify for the district wide seal. The written artist’s statement is a portion of the final verification from DCSD and must be submitted along with th efinal verification form for approval.

Once all 3 items have been submitted via courier/ to the appropriate coordinator by March 15, 2018, all qualifying candidates will be added to the DeKalb County School’s Fine Arts Seal approval list for 2018 graduation. The verified list will come to all fine arts teachers. The state will send the seals to each school in April 2018.
