This is a ushabti (also known as a shabti).
It’s a clay figure that was buried with people in ancient Egypt.

Important Egyptians were often buried with their servants.
They thought that servants would continue to work for them in the afterlife. But too many servants were dying, so the Egyptians decided to bury a statue instead.

Ushabtis were figures of specific people.
The name of the person was written in a cartouche.

The ushabtis were given specific chores to do
The ushabtis were given specific chores to do. That way, ushabtis could do the work so the real person didn’t have to. After all, ancient Egyptians wanted to relax in the afterlife, not work.

You are going to start making your own ushabti.
Write your name in hieroglyphics in the cartouche. Write the instructions: If [first name] be decreed to do any work such as [job/work], I, Ushabti, will do it. Decorate your ushbti. Cut out your ushabti. Write your name on the bottom of the back IN PENCIL.

Closure Tidy up art tray Put all papers in Field Notes.
Put Field Notes NEXT TO the art tray. Wait for further directions.
