NST - Our educational travel company We have booked this tour through leading educational travel company, NST. We’ll benefit from their knowledge and experience in arranging school tours, as well as the 24 hour assistance they offer should we need their support whilst we are away.

Tour Objectives The GCSE WJEC exam board indepth study of Germany in transition,

On our tour, students will cover:
Germany in transition, The rise of the Nazi Party and it consolidation of power The changing life of the German people War and its impact on life in Germany

The tour will also cover:
The History of Berlin as a city. Including it’s culture and politics. The role Berlin played in the Cold War and the division on the city between east and west. History of Berlin clip

Tour overview We will depart from Valley by bus on Friday 17th April. We will meet at the school at 3.00pm We will stay at Transit Loft Hotel, for 3 nights, and will return home on Wednesday 22nd April. The estimated arrival back at school is 1.00pm.

Morning: Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Grunwald Station (interesting Holocaust memorials) Afternoon: Wannsee the place where the Final Solution was decided. Evening: Dinner at the hotel Evening entertainment - Bowling

Morning: Olympic Stadium Afternoon: Visit of the city centre. Topography of Terror Luftwaffe Building and Checkpoint Charlie. Shopping at Unter den Linden Evening: Dinner at the hotel Reichstag Visit

Tour overview Tuesday 21st April
Morning: Travel by tube to Bernauerstrasse to see parts of the Berlin Wall Visit the Jewish quarter. Afternoon: Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church Visit to a nightclub and cultural talk on the Berlin music scene. Evening: Depart for home at 18.00

Our meal arrangements Breakfast and evening meals are included.
Our lunch meals are not included. Our guide knows Berlin very well and will take us to cheap places to eat as well as supermarkets to buy snacks for our lunch. If you have any specific dietary requirements, please let me know well in advance.

Travel tips – Group Passport
Students will be travelling on a group passport And so we must receive a completed parental consent form and two passport photos.

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
You must also have The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) This is free. Website Your EHIC lets you get state healthcare at a reduced cost or sometimes for free. It will cover you for treatment that is needed to allow you to continue your stay until your planned return. It also covers you for treatment of pre-existing medical conditions

Travel tips - Money The currency in Berlin is the Euro. We recommend that students take a minimum of 50 Euros with them on the visit in cash. We can hold monies for students, if required, and release it as and when. Please place it in an envelope with the student’s name and amount.

Travel tips - Packing What to take on the tour: Warm clothes. Berlin can still be cold in April and we will be doing a number of excursions by foot around the city. Good walking shoes. Each day will be very long with a lot of walking. Snacks. These can be put in your main luggage to keep you going during the day. NO LIQUIDS in suitcases in case of accidents.

Next steps Final payment - The balance of the visit will need to be paid in full by Thursday 5th March.

Safety & financial security
Association of British Travel Agents & Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing We are booking our tour through educational travel company, NST. They are fully bonded through ABTA (for non-air travel) and ATOL (for air travel) which means we’ll have complete financial protection as soon as we pay our deposits.
