1 Session 2: “Build to Last”
Pastor Benny Ho

2 Joshua 24: 15 – “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 1: 16 – “Whatever you have commanded us we will do and wherever you send us we will go.”

3 Joshua 24: 31 (NKJV) – “Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua (and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had known all the works of the Lord which He had done for Israel.

4 Judges 2: 10 – “When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which he had done for Israel.”

5 The first generation was marked by commitment.
They will trust & serve the Lord. The second generation was marked by compromise. They will trust & serve themselves. The third generation is marked by confusion. They don’t know who to trust or serve.

6 The Principle of Three Generations
Abraham was a man who honored God all of his life. Isaac, his son was a man full of compromise. Esau, his son sold his birthright for a bowl of stew. Jacob was a cheater, liar and manipulator until God turned him around.

7 David took a physical nation and turned it into a spiritual nation.
Solomon took a spiritual nation and turned it back to a secular nation. Rehoboam took that nation and split and destroyed the nation.

8 What is the root problem?
The leaders failed to live for the next generation. They failed to reproduce themselves. They were doing the works of the ministry but not maturing the saints. They were too busy doing projects that they did not develop the people.

9 2 Timothy 1: 5 – “I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”

10 Proverbs 27: 17 – “As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another.”

11 a. Moses and Joshua Exodus 33: 10, 11 – “Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshipped, each at the entrance to his tent. The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.”

12 “Jesus style” is centered on relationship.
“It is the impartation of life in a situational setting rather than an impartation of knowledge in a classroom setting.”

13 “More time spent with fewer people equal greater lasting impact for God.” – Ron Lee Davis

14 We can teach from a distance, but we can only impart in the context of a relationship.

15 Moses spent time with Joshua.
Naomi took time for Ruth. Elijah did the same for Elisha. Barnabas spent time with Paul. Paul did the same for Timothy.

16 2 Timothy 4: 6 – 8, “For I am already poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.”

17 “The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership.”
“A leader’s work is not over until his followers have taken his place.”

18 John 17: 4 – “Jesus in his high priestly prayer told the Father: “I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.”
