5 Naviance What is it? Provides for self-exploration Naviance allows students to better understand themselves, set goals, and possibly unleash new interests they never knew they had!

6 Naviance: Self Exploration
Career Cluster Finder- This interest inventory matches possible career clusters to your interests and can be re-taken as interests change. All grade levels have completed this inventory.

7 Naviance: Strengths Explorer
Strengths Explorer: Taken by 7th and 8th grade levels and allows students to Uncover talents and reveal strengths. Students may only take this test once.

8 Career Key This is completed by 8th graders. It is a personality inventory that matches personality to potential career clusters. This tool is helpful in determining endorsements as well as potential Academies.

9 Other uses for Naviance
College Search and virtual tours Resume Building College Applications Requesting Letters of Recommendation from teachers/staff In middle school, students are introduced to this versatile tool that will help them navigate the path they will take in high school and beyond. The More students know about themselves, the more equipped they will be to make informed decisions about their future.

10 Endorsements Endorsements are areas of focus for students much like a college major. There are 5 endorsements and they align with NISD academies Can have multiple endorsements

11 4-year plans/ PGP (Personal Graduation Plan)
All 8th graders will be creating a 4 year plan this year with a chosen endorsement. Dual Credit (Sophomore year decide) AP Credit House Bill 5 (HB5), passed by the 83rd Texas Legislature and signed by the governor, provides for a new set of graduation plans for Texas Students. These plans consist of a foundation plan for every Texas student and the five endorsements from which they can choose. Students will earn a minimum of 26 credits in their 4 years. Requirements: Math- 4 years Science: 4 years ELA: 4 years Social Studies: 3 years (state) 4 years recommended and colleges prefer LOTE (foreign lang): 2 years Speech: 1 semester Fine Art: 1 year Athletics: 1 year

15 Timeline for 4 year plans
6th Grade: Begin exploring interests and career paths through Naviance 7th Grade: Above and introduction to Academies, 4 year plans and endorsements. 8th Grade: Above and Academy Fair in the fall followed by Academy Applications and high school showcases in January. -Explanation of 4 year plans, endorsements. -Students must choose an endorsement with parent approval and signature. (These are not set in stone. Students will meet annually with high school counselor to review and update as needed) -In January-February, students will create 4 year plans
