1 “O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in you.”
The Beatitudes “O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in you.”

2 Truth Reviewed The 8th commandment requires us to speak the truth and governs our communication. The truth is absolute. It cannot change the pending on opinions or the culture in which we live. Words are important and powerful. You can deceive without using words. We are all entitled to keep a good reputation Gossip detraction, and slander can harm a person’s reputation and are sins against the 8th commandment. We must always think before speaking and not rushed to judge others based on gossip.

3 The Beatitudes We all want to enjoy happiness. What sort of things make you happy? Does this kind of happiness last? Jesus came to teach us about spiritual happiness which will last forever.

4 The Beatitudes If the Good News is the Kingdom of God, who is the King? Where is the Kingdom? How can we enter the Kingdom? The Ten Commandments are mostly prohibitions: “Thou shall nots.” A person could follow the commandments out of duty and not use to seek a relationship with the Lord. The Beatitudes, however, show us how to love and live the Law of God.

5 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Who are the poor in spirit? Those who are humble in spirit Spiritual poverty “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). What commandment comes to mind? What promise comes with spiritual poverty?

6 “Blessed on those who mourn for they shall be comforted.”
What does it mean to mourn? We should mourn for our sins. What are we promised if we mourn for our sins?

7 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
What does it mean to be meek? Are you humble, nonitrusive, and in control of your anger? What are the characteristics of the meek? What do you think it means to inherit the earth?

8 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, they shall be satisfied.”
What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness? What prayer do we say that addresses God’s will? How will we be satisfied?

9 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”
What does it mean to be merciful? Again, the Lord’s prayer deals with mercy. Do you want to be shown God’s mercy?

10 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
How can you become pure in heart? Purity means without stain or blemish. A person with a pure heart will love God above all things. He will not allow sin or earthly desires to enter his thoughts, heart, or actions. What do you think it means to see God?

11 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
What is a peacemaker? How can you become a peacemaker? What does it mean to be a son of God?

12 How can you be persecuted for righteousness’ sake?
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.” How can you be persecuted for righteousness’ sake? Have you ever been persecuted for your beliefs? Have you ever stood up for someone else who was being persecuted for their belief in God? Through persecution we share in Christ’s suffering and will also share in his glory. In bearing the scorn of others we will enter the Kingdom of heaven.

13 Living The Beatitudes Do you think following the Beatitudes is easy?
With God’s grace we can overcome anything. Do we need to earn God’s grace to receive it? How can we receive God’s grace?
