Review development of the Southern Oregon Digital Archive (SODA Bioregion and First Nations)
Introduce SODA Southern Oregon History Collection
Acknowledge collaboration/community growing that made these three collections possible
Detail issues in collaborating with outside organizations for digitizing projects
Encourage collaboration among and beyond Oregon libraries for cooperative digitizing

Northern part of the “State of Jefferson”
Geographically speaking, the region is the northern part of the bioregion made up of the Klamath, Siskiyou, and Southern Cascades mountains, or most of that portion of the apocryphal “State of Jefferson” (northern-most California and southwestern Oregon) lands that lie within Oregon.

The Southern Oregon History Collection brings together books, maps, government documents, oral histories, correspondence and miscellaneous materials that document the unique historical experience of Southern Oregon.  Most materials focus on historic era settlement or economic development in Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson, and Josephine Counties.  Agriculture, mining, forestry, commerce, education, government, and politics, religious organizations, and social life of the region are among the aspects represented.

I’d like to highlight a few “realia” that show the range of materials that fortunately were saved and donated to one of our libraries, or the Southern Oregon Historical Society. The first is a booster brochure fo Grants Pass, Oregon. We have numerous commercial club and other brochures promoting life in the communities of Jackson and Josephine Counties … Then we have a stock certificate for shares in the Ashland Coal Mining Company. This commemorative postcard-like memento from the Camp White Veteran’s Domiciliary in 1951 is part of the Albert A. Cedros Papers, which are owned by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS). When requested to, we include acknowledgement of specific collections such as this one. These are Medford air raid warden kit materials from World War II. Agin notice the preliminary page acknowledging the Southern Oregon Historical Society. My last exhibit of realia is a movie theater program of Maude Adams as Peter Pan.
