No Secret Recipe There is no “secret recipe” for being an effective teacher. (Coombe, 2014) Different teachers have different styles that work for them. Ingredients will help you create your own recipe.

Maximizes student participation/ involvement in the lesson Monitors the participation and involvement in classroom activities/ tasks. Participates in activities Speaks at the level of students’ comprehension Use of L1 and L2 supports learning and understanding. Explains in a way that is easy to understand. Listens to learners’ input Interactive Focus on quality not quantity

Affective Filter Hypothesis
Environment blockage can be reduced by sparking interest, providing low-anxiety environments, and increasing the learner's self-esteem. Affective Filter Hypothesis certain emotions, such as anxiety, self-doubt, and boredom interfere with the process of acquiring a second language (Krashen, 1982)

Content relates to the students’ interests and experiences Focus on clarity Visually appealing Accurate language Content is contextually appropriate Visuals assist understanding (pictures are clear, have a direct link to understanding) Videos are relevant to the lesson and not too long (be careful of the zombie effect!)
