1 Do Now 5/3 In your Writer’s Notebook, turn to your first available page in the Writing Section. Title it “Movin’ On Up.” We’ll write for 3 minutes. Most jobs that aren’t minimum wage positions require some kind of degree or training. What are the things in high school and college you must do to get into the career you want? What are the things in high school and college you could do to help you get into the career you want?

2 What must a resume include? What is good to include, but optional?

3 You are now either… Working on your resume on a Chromebook. It is due with your YergCorp application at the end of class. If your resume is free of errors, clean and professional (in other words, if Mr. Yergert would offer you an interview), you get a 3. If your resume has noticeable errors, is bent, folded, or otherwise unprofessional (in other words, if Mr. Yergert wouldn’t offer you an interview), you get a 1. If your resume is so professionally done that Mr. Yergert is ready to offer you a position based on your resume alone, you get a 4. Working on your YergCorp application. 4 Do Now 5/4 Grab a marker! In the box below, write what your most common spelling or grammar error is.

5 Trade your resume with a partner.
If you did not get a 3, this is your chance to fix errors. Go through your partner’s resume and make note of any errors or areas of improvement. If you did get a 3, go through your partner’s resume and make note of what you could add or improve. When you trade resumes back, if you make note of what the changes will be and turn it back in, your grade will go up.

6 Professional s You need to know how to write a professional . In this example, can you find all the errors in spelling, grammar, or professionalism?

7 Silent Reading We’ll finish class with silent reading.
Excluding DC, you have just a little over one week of 8th grade left. In high school, you will likely have to walk in having already finished summer reading homework and will be require to read multiple chapters every night in several classes. Let’s practice.
