Ingenta Ingenta Ingenta (ConnectComplete) (formerly Uncover)
2
To search Ingenta, I will need to start at the Rod Library Homepage
3
I will then select Databases A-Z under Journal and Magazine Articles (Panther Prowler) from the Main Menu.
4
I can then find the Ingenta database I need and select it.
5
This is the Ingenta (ConnectComplete) search screen
This is the Ingenta (ConnectComplete) search screen. I can now type a search into the quick search box on the left.
6
I need to look for information on soil erosion in countries other than the United States. I will put the term soil erosion in quotes so that it is searched as a phrase.
7
I will then select electronic content so that I can print the articles that I find. I will then click on to start the search.
8
I am obviously going to need to narrow this search as I have retrieved 1,098 hits. I will try to exclude those about the United states since I don’t need them.
9
I will click on modify search at the top of the results list.
10
I will type in my search using the Boolean operator not
I will type in my search using the Boolean operator not. My search phrase is now “soil erosion” not “United States” so that I can exclude those articles about the United States.
11
I only eliminated 29 entries with my last search
I only eliminated 29 entries with my last search. I will need to rethink the terms I need to enter or look for other ways to narrow my search.
12
I will again click on modify search.
13
I can now limit my search by the author’s name, the publication title, the volume & issue, and the year. Since I do not know any authors or publication titles or volumes, the only one that would be of use is the year. I will try that.
14
Since I know that Subscribed Titles are titles which are full text online, I will limit my search to those and the years 2003 to I will then click on the search button at the bottom.
15
I am now down to 182 entries. This is still a lot of entries to look through. I may need to change my search phrase to narrow my results.
16
Instead of eliminating United States, I will narrow my search by looking for a certain area of the world. My new search is “soil erosion” and Africa (limited to 2003 to 2006).
17
I now have a set of 11 entries, a much more reasonable set to look through.
18
The first three entries are articles that I must pay for
The first three entries are articles that I must pay for. I will need to decide if the remaining 8 articles are enough for my paper.
19
I can get more information about each article by clicking on their titles. The abstracts provide a good summary of the content of the articles.
20
I will click on the Back button to return to my results list to look at another title.
21
The fifth entry indicates this title is held by Rod Library
The fifth entry indicates this title is held by Rod Library. I will click on this title to see what I can find out about getting it.
22
From here I can click on the title of the journal and then on the individual issue I need.
23
If I decide that 11 articles are not enough, I will click on modify search and expand my search to include more years.
24
