Today I’d like to introduce you to the new Xerox Phaser 6500 color printer and Xerox WorkCentre 6505 color multifunction printer.
These devices are built for small teams of 2 to 7 professionals who are looking for a color printer or multifunction device to handle their day to day printing needs, or in the case of the MFP to additionally handle copying, scanning and fax jobs.

The Phaser 6500 and WorkCentre 6505 will have a light impact on customers’ environments – inside and outside their office:
Conserve paper – available two-sided printing helps customers minimize paper use – reducing costs and lowering environmental impact
Toner-only cartridges – small size and minimal packaging allow these products to create up to 80% less waste than comparable color devices that use integrated print cartridges

The Phaser 6500 color printer will be sold in two configurations.

Driver support includes Windows XP/Vista/7 and 2003 Server and 2008 Server, Mac OSX 10.5 and higher along with Bonjour, and for various Linux versions.
Accessories in a duplex accessory for customers who wish to add two-sided printing to the 6500N, an additional 250-sheet paper tray that brings total capacity up to a full ream of paper, and a productivity kit that adds advanced functionality like Secure Print, Proof Print, and others.

The Phaser 6500 shares a printer platform with recent products like the Phaser 6140 and Phaser 6128MFP, so you may find many of the physical attributes of the printer familiar. The duplex unit is the same as that used in the Phaser 6140, and is installed in the same location just inside the front panel. Tray capacities are the same – with a single-sheet manual feed slot, standard 250-sheet tray, and optional 2nd 250-sheet tray. Toner cartridges are replaced through the convenient side-door.
From a security perspective, Secure Print, Proof Print, Save Print and RAM Collation are enabled with the Productivity Kit, which utilizes a 512 MB RAM Upgrade to enable these features. With no hard drive, customers do not need to worry about residual data remaining on the device. Device access can also be controlled using IP Filtering, and the front panel and CWIS can be PIN protected to manage access to device settings.

The list of improvements from the Phaser 6128MFP to the WorkCentre 6505 is long. We already talked about automatic two-sided output and the additional paper tray, which were not available on the Phaser 6128MFP.
Output speeds have also increased – doubling color output speed from 12 ppm to 24 ppm and 50% black-and-white speed improvement from 16 ppm to 24 ppm.
The Front Panel USB port is new with the WC 6505, and enables printing from and scanning to USB memory devices.
Support for LDAP has been added for synchronizing with corporate directories.
Network TWAIN scanning has been added as well to the set of network scanning options, which continue to include , and scanning to a computer via SMB or FTP.
