Balearic Islands In the Balearic Islands there are three islands
They are called Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The Balearics are part of Spain. They are in the Mediterranean Sea.

Facts and figures Palma is the capital city on the island of Mallorca and of all the towns on the Balearic islands. The Balearics are 5,040 km 2 This is a lot more than twice the size of Shetland The population is 878, 627 The currency is Euro (€)

language Spanish is the official language but they also speak Catalan.
To say good morning in Spanish you would say Buenos dias In Catalan it is Bon dia.

Mallorca The highest mountain of Mallorca is The Puig Mayor it is 1,445 m above sea level The area of Mallorca is 3,640 km² Mallorca is famous for tourism

Menorca Monte Toro is the highest point. It is 357m high
The area is 716 km2 The population is 67,000

Ibiza The population of Ibiza is 100,000 The area is 546km2
Ibiza is famous for clubs and pubs.

Flag The Balearic flag is yellow and red horizontal lines with a castle on a purple background in the top left hand corner The coat of arms is yellow and red vertical lines with a diagonal blue line going from the top left hand corner

Weather The first really warm beach days begin in May, with beautiful clear, sunny days and temperatures in the mid-twenties. Between the months of June and September, there is very little rain fall. In August and September the temperature rises up to over 30º C with water temperatures of 25º - 27º C.

Sport Most people support football
They all support Barcelona because it’s the Catalan team But there is a team called Real Mallorca and they are in the top division Menorca has a basketball team and they are also in the top division

Food Paella is one of the most famous Spanish dishes.
It is seafood cooked with rice. The pictures at the side are paella cooked.

Religions Almost all of the people in Spain are Roman Catholic

Festivals This festival in Maó, marks the end of Menorca's busy summer. People ride black horses through the streets.
