2. ZIMASSET..TRANSPORT SECTOR OUTPUTS: 2013-2018
ROADS: 200km roads dualised (Investment potential) 500km roads rehabilitated 4000km roads resealed, 500km/province. 200km new roads constructed 200 km widening of narrow mat roads Rebuilding of Flood damaged bridges: Runde & Tuli 4000km of rural road regraded and regravelled – 500km/per province 1000km of road carriageway marked, signaged & fenced Automation of vehicle registration, driver licensing, vehicle and operator inspection ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMME 11/16/2018

3. NATIONAL TRNSPORT MASTER PLAN
To develop the country’s comprehensive national transport infrastructure master plan aligned to addressing the country’s transport requirements in the short, medium to long term periods, taking into account proposed transport developments within Zimbabwe and proposals for links to neighbouring countries. To integrate the plan to the SADC Infrastructure Master Plan with due consideration of the COMESA transport policy and the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (2011); To develop a consolidated bankable document modelled on current economic realities and the country’s national development plans consideringthe demand for transport infrastructure; Develop an inter-modal transport infrastructure plan for all the provinces of the country; ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMME 11/16/2018

10.2 NEW LIMPOPO BRIDGE (NLB)
Concession signed in 1994 Period – 20 years from commissioning Construction of a new 2-lane road bridge over the Limpopo river at Beitbridge Concession operation involved charging toll fees and maintenance of the bridge Concession ended on 16 June 2014 and bridge handed over to Government ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMME 11/16/2018

10.3 BEITBRIDGE BULAWAYO RAILWAY (BBR)
Concession signed in 1998 Period – 30 years from commissioning Construction of 150km of new railway line from Beitbridge to West Nicholson Upgrading existing line from West Nicholson to Bulawayo Operation of the railway line – charging for all traffic and track maintenance ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMME 11/16/2018

10.4 PLUMTREE-MUTARE PROJECT
Concession commenced in October 2011 Rehabilitation of the Plumtree-Mutare highway (820km): Widening (shoulder surfacing) Reconstruction of pavement in failed sections Resurfacing Construction of tollgates Construction Period – 30 months to February 2014; Extension to April 2015 Operation of tollgates for 10 years till about 2025 ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMME 11/16/2018

12. CONCLUSION The state of the Zimbabwe’s road infrastructure has deteriorated over the years The country has a huge accumulated requirement for infrastructure rehabilitation and development Currently road rehabilitation and development is severely underfunded Future project financing will probably largely be through road user charges PPPs are also a possible way of financing road projects THANK YOU!
