Project Proposal: Area of Design
Theatre Design Set Costume Puppetry Prop These are the main areas of influence and the aspects of theatre which I hope to design for (some if not all.)
2
The Concept Create a diorama (a miniature model representing a scene) within a box. The viewer must look through a small hole in the box to be able to see the scene, as if looking through a key hole and becoming immersed in what is on the other side of the door. I aim to create a model that is really life-like so it is hard to believe the tiny scale of the scene.

My aims... Attempting to remove the stigma attached to theatre and get more people interested in it. Create a beautifully intricate and delicate model which looks realistic within the confines of a box. Produce an interactive final piece to perhaps advertise a particular show, or just get an audience to become absorbed in the small world I have created. Consider the location to make this box site-specific. (for example, use a landmark location and re-create the feeling of this place within the box.) Research has included looking at artists and designers that inspire me, being influenced particularly by stage design by Ralph Koltai and Isabella Bywater which often puts actors into a surreal world, becoming just as fascinating as the storyline.
