He was a student at Harvard College in Massachusetts. He became a sailor and boarded the Pilgrim at Boston Harbor. That ship traveled south, around Cape Horn, then north to Alta California in order to trade with people in the foreign country of Mexico.

This is the brig’s shape. On a centimeter grid, it is 7 cm x 25 cm.

Taping the ship to scale on the gym floor, the Math works out pretty easy if the ship is 40 times larger than the picture. That will make it 10 meters long and 280 cm wide. Width: 12 m 10 cm Plan to build on part of this space, on Length = 10 m and Width = 280 cm. Length: 13 m 50 cm Presenter #3, Adler

Length: 13 m 50 cm

Taping the ship to scale on the gym floor, the Math works out pretty easy if the ship is 40 times larger than the picture. That will make it 10 meters long and 280 cm wide. Width: 12 m 10 cm Gym Exit, This way to Chumash Demo. Student 5 explains the Alta CA economy, hide and tallow trade, how trade happened. They will use CA 3-D Map and make board. Student 4 describes the people aboard, jobs, personality traits, what happens to them. Will create a board that shows dress, hierarchy. Plan to build on part of this space, on Length = 10 m and Width = 280 cm. Student 6 explains the group tasks on ship and equipment, hoisting sails and lugging hides, shanty songs used to help sailors work. Length: 13 m 50 cm Adler (3) explains the grid layout of the ship, ship terms (aft, etc), and parts of the ship, forecastle, cabin quarters, etc. Student 2 explains the route of Dana’s ship, longitude and latitude, challenges along way. Will use America’s map. Student 1 explains who Dana is, why he’s important, and the timeline in history. Timeline on poster compares CA history to U.S. history. Gym Entrance
