We have changed the way we will run This is APTA. You may not have noticed because you are new to APTA. We are making this session more interactive and focused on what can help you. Your membership in APTA is a partnership, we want you to leverage the valuable member resources that we can provide you. However, we also need you to be active participants in the association because you only get out of membership what you put in!

Welcome New APTA Members!
Welcome! I am thrilled you were able to join us today to discuss your membership in APTA. APTA is a full-service membership association providing a diverse array of programs and services to enhance and support our members and the transit industry. This is in addition to our conferences and workshops. You will see a range of business members and systems at all the events these are great opportunities to advance your relationships across the industry. From bus and train manufacturers, seat builders and creators of clocks… A little bit of everything that our industry needs is created by an APTA member. And we are backed by some very important folks! Including our chair Flora Castillo and Deputy Administrator of the FTA Therese McMillan as you can see in a deep conversation!

APTA’ s History Principal public transportation trade organization, with more than 1,500 transit, business, and other members in the United States, Canada, and worldwide. Non-profit: 501(c)6. Began in 1882—the era of horse-drawn street railway cars. 90% of transit riders travel on APTA member systems.

Who Are APTA Members? Now, as you look at this slide, Transit Systems and Government/State Associations are pretty self explanatory, and then there are business members. Business members in APTA covers manufacturers, consultants, contractors, sole proprietors, and suppliers. We are diverse in size and function but we have a common focus, access to business and customers. We also have a small slice of members which represent organizations such as transportation management associations, public interest groups and even retirees.

Conferences Make The Most of Conferences:
View the online Pre-Conference Registration list to identify clients and target attendees for contact on site (available if you are registered for that conference) Attend receptions and other social functions to meet industry colleagues, APTA staff and key industry officials NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK Participate in the Business Member Networking Breakfasts meet prime contractors and learn about contracting and bid opportunities Respond to electronic “Call for Papers” to submit your ideas for conference presentation and opportunities to speak at major conferences during the year Access links to conference content after events you attended (sent electronically to all conference attendees) Sponsorship opportunities available - Conferences and workshops during the year -Suited to varying member budgets -Provides industry exposure and variety of event options And don’t forget… (Overflowing Conference Room)

How to Get Involved! Make a commitment! Join a committee, run for the board, register for conferences. Just dive right in with any of these options. Or ease in, you can use our online directory to find peers, a powerful tool. We also have the online buyers guide that connects you to the industry as well as online conference registration and transit procurement tools. Leadership APTA Apply to Leadership APTA. I am a Leadership APTA grad and I can’t give it high enough praises. You will get the chance to work with professionals from around the country, expand your skills, learn from others, and show your organization that you are dedicated to our industry!

Workforce Development
We are also creating new sessions at our workshops and conferences specifically with assistant general managers, deputies and mid-level managers in mind. We realize that there are special challenges that you face in your positions and we are creating sessions to take time to focus on those and how we can help you get to the next level in your career. WE also just created a new Early Career Program geared to professionals early in their careers.
