Testes Site of sperm production Sperm production occurs in the seminiferous tubules Manufactures testosterone in interstitial cells

Sperm – Male gamete. Motile (capable of movement) – Need fluid for motility - Need source of energy to move Semen Milky fluid containing sperm and liquid secretions from the seminal vesicles and prostate gland

Seminal Vesicles Produces a liquid rich in fructose (acts as an energy source for sperm) Liquid has hormone-like compounds to stimulate contractions of female reproductive tract (helps sperm reach the oviduct faster)

Prostate Gland Produces liquid containing enzymes to maintain fluid (in semen) at optimum viscosity for sperm mobility.

Summary: The Male Reproductive System
Testes produce sperm in the seminiferous tubules and the hormone testosterone in the interstitial cells. The prostate gland and seminal vesicles secrete fluids that maintain the mobility and viability of the sperm. viability seminal vesicles interstitial mobility seminiferous
