RECRUITING IDEAS Consider offering free training to members on topics that are mandated Get invited to the Business Administrator meetings in your county or region. Talk up membership in SNA. Take applications for membership! Assign a mentor to a new recruit so they re-up after a year Value: NJSNA provides a sanitation certification training that is required by the NJ Dept of health. It is free to NJSNA members. Consider offering free trainings to members on any topics that are mandated. Others can pay for the training. The cost of the training should cover a new membership cost. This is a great way to get the numbers up. Business administrator: Be persistent. You may have to ask several times before you get on the agenda. Have your presentation ready so you can let them know exactly how much time you will need. It is fun to win something! Give away memberships at meetings. Allow members to bring guests and draw one free membership at each meeting. Based on the configuration of your state more meetings will mean more new members. Complete the paperwork with them and assign them a mentor so they re-up after a year.

One thing to consider when you venture into the world of Social Media is that your fans and followers may end up being a different audience than you anticipated, or your audience may differ from one site to another. For example, SNA’s facebook page is primarily utilized by our members and is a great way for members to keep in touch and share good news in a casual format. SNA ON TWITTER ALEXIS SNA’s Twitter page is followed more heavily by members of the media and by the school meal reform community. As a result, our tweets are significantly different from our facebook posts, and tend to focus more on pushing out our PR materials and messages. Twitter has been a great way for SNA to share positive news about school meals with those who are usually only hearing negative news. We forward news stories featuring successful programs, links to SNA press releases, statistics from SNA research.
