Swap your sketchbook with another person who is on the same differentiation level as you.
3 minutes Look at their design brief prepwork. Using your personal judgement, assess this work using the criteria opposite. Give a positive comment or some advice for improvement on the progression sheet in the back of their book. Assessment Criteria: Creative, but organised, presentation Sensitive use of colour (not too many) Inclusion of images or a drawing Lots of effort employed

Biro – use crosshatching to add tone
You need to complete 4 drawings. Choose a different insect to draw for each technique. Biro – use crosshatching to add tone Pencil – use weight of line to imply tone Mono printing – remember to remove the excess ink before drawing your insect Pen wash – don’t draw back onto wet paper, you will ruin the pens. 35minutes

Pen wash Draw your insect in finer liner Using a wet brush paint the water over the pen lines and wash the ink to create areas of dark and light tone.

Pencil Use weight of line to suggest depth. Look where the darkest parts of your insect are and press on harder. Look where the whitest parts of your insect are and press on lighter.

Mono printing Roll out your ink about 15 x 15 cm
Blot your ink using newspaper Lay your piece of paper over the ink being careful not to touch it once placed Draw your insect in as much detail as you can Lift up your paper, write your name on it and hang up to dry Mono printing

Biro Use crosshatching to show areas of tone on your insect Draw your insect as accurately as you can

3 minutes Turn to the back of your sketchbook and thinking about the learning objectives from the start of the lesson, tick each statement that you feel confident you have learnt. Now at the right-hand side, write down one specific thing that you have learnt today that you didn’t know before.
