You know that the subjunctive mood is used to say that one person influences the actions of another.

Sometimes you use an impersonal expression to express how you influence another person’s actions. Here are some impersonal expressions that are often followed by que + subjunctive:

Es necesario que Uds. tengan buenos modales. It’s necessary that you have good manners.

Es mejor que consigamos una habitación doble. It’s better that we get a double room.

Note that in the examples above, a specific person is mentioned in the second half of the sentence. If no person is specified, the infinitive is used without que. Compare the following sentences.

Para ser un buen turista, es importante ser muy cortés. To be a good tourist, it’s important to be very polite.

You already know that hay means there is / there are. The infinitive is HABER. Es importante que haya entrevistas con los estudiantes en el periódico escolar. It is important that there be interviews with students in the school newspaper.
