Assignment 1.02 Pick between 3 letter written by Herman Cortes
Historical Context- in one paragraph, describe the world Cortes is invading Audience- who is Cortes writing to? (HINT: answer is in the directions). In one paragraph, describe what you know about the audience Purpose- Why is Cortes writing this letter? Point-of-View: Describe what you know about Cortes and why he came to the Americas? What is he hoping to accomplish?

“What does this source reveal about the causes and/or effects of Spanish conquest and settlement of the Americas?” Again, why did Cortes come to the Americas and what happened after he arrived? (Textbook helps answer this!)

Assignment 1.3 Debate between two Spanish writers—Should Spain go to war against the Native Americans? You have to look for a quote to support each claim in the chart. Describe how your chosen quote supports the claim
